FEBRUARY 3

Captain Sean Sullivan, USN, Commanding Officer of the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, will speak about the Navy and the Naval Submarine Base. Captain Sullivan, a native of Bridgeport, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1980 with a BS in Marine Engineering. In June 2002, he was awarded a Master of Arts in National Security Studies from the Naval War College, where he was named a Mahan Scholar. Captain Sullivan's shore assignments include tours as Company Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy, Squadron Engineer for Commander, Submarine Squadron Eleven, Liaison Officer to the U.S. House of Representatives for the Navy's Office of Legislative Affairs, Deputy Commander of Submarine Development Squadron Twelve, and, most recently, TYCOM Representative at the Electric Boat shipyard. At EB, Captain Sullivan was responsible for training and oversight of the crews of submarines at the shipyard, including the Navy's newest attack submarine, PCU VIRGINIA (SSN 774).

FEBRUARY 10

Daryl Hawk, an international documentary photographer, will present a slide show and lecture entitled, “High Adventure Journey Through the Thunder Dragon”. This presentation will be a retrospective of various expeditions and trips Mr. Hawk has taken starting in the Canadian Arctic, through all of North, Central and South America and ending in Antarctica. This presentation will be particularly valuable to anyone who travels and wants to come back with better photographs to help document their own trip or expedition. Daryl Hawk is a writer, photographer and adventurer whose articles appear in numerous national magazines as well as NBC's Today Show . He is a member of the Explorers Club and a fellow in the Royal Geographic Society. He is also host and producer of the Cablevision show The Unconventional Traveler which can be seen Tuesday nights at 9PM on Channel 71.

DONUT HOSTS

The donut hosts for February 3 will be Bill Codeanne, Jim Hurley, Dick McFarland, and Ed See. February 10 the hosts will be Bert Grossman Tom Lowrie, Win Potter and John Washburn.

MEETING FACILITIES

Setting up the chairs February 3 will be Phil Lint, Roy McKay, Rick Towers and John Washburn. February 10 our chairs will be setup by Tom Lowrie, Howard Maynard, John Thompson and Jack Walsh.

BOARD MEETING

The board meeting will be held Thursday, February 3rd at 8:15 a.m. It will be in the Daniel's Room at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. All members are welcome to attend.

TRIPS AND TRAVEL

February 16 – Enjoy Twelve Angry Men on Broadway at the American Airlines Theater. Set entirely in the jury room, this drama follows the heated discussions in a murder trial. The price is $92 per person and includes not only the motor coach but lunch at the French restaurant Les Sans Culottes. We've booked 42 seats for the 2PM matinee. April 1/4 – Tour Washington D.C. at Cherry Blossom Time. This 4-day tour will feature new venues such as the World War II Memorial, the National Air & Space Museum and the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. The cost is $548, per person, double occupancy, and a deposit of $100, per person, is required to hold your reservation. We still have space available but it is going fast. June 27/July 5 – Enjoy the Blue Danube River Cruise, a 9-day escorted tour by Collette Vacations, featuring Prague, Vienna and Budapest. The cost is $2,859 per person, double occupancy, including transportation from Westport. A $250 deposit is required to hold your reservation and brochures are available. HOOT OWLS

The Hoot Owls will sing February 9 in New Canaan at the New Canaan Senior Center at 1:00 p.m.
