THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1

John Michael Fabrizi, Mayor of Bridgeport, will speak on the subject "Building a Better Bridgeport”. The mayor will outline the progress that Bridgeport has made over the last three years and outline his plans for the future of Connecticut's largest city. Prior to assuming his mayoral responsibilities, John served 11 years as assistant director of Bridgeport's adult education program and an additional 14 years teaching 5th and 6th graders. He and his wife Mary have been married for 20 years and have a 19 year-old son, Michael.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 8

Westonite David Wiltse, Playwright-in-Residence at the Westport County Playhouse will talk about "The Horror of the Blank Page” explaining the vicissitudes of a writer's life. Wiltse is a professional writer who has written 11 plays, published 12 novels and produced more than 50 projects for film and television. David Wiltse and his wife, Anne Keefe, the former Associate Artistic Director of the Westport Country Playhouse, live in Weston.

The donut hosts for February 1 will be Alan Beasley, Ted Diamond, Carl Liba and John Loynes. The hosts for February 8 will be Bruce Allen, Arnold Berke, Sumner Glimcher and Alan Temple.

TRIPS AND TRAVEL

February 21 – Enjoy the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Broadway musical Company. The price of $115 per person includes show and motor coach. Lunch is on your own. We are sold out and have stand-bys. Contact Warren Rossell, 226-5357.

March 27/29 – Travel to Fascinating Philadelphia for a three-day tour highlighted by a visit to the Franklin Institute where their featured exhibition will be the lost treasures of King Tut. Tour also includes the National Constitution Center, National Liberty Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and a performance at the prestigious Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts of the “Pops Hoedown” featuring Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. April 18 – Tour the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. Following an orientation we will visit the ship's bridge and engine room simulator. We will enjoy lunch in the Officer's Club followed by visits to the museum and chapel. The price is just $49 including lunch. Contact Roger Eickhoff, 454-3889.

April 26-May 10 – Join us in Exploring Greece and its Islands, a 15-day escorted tour by Collette Vacations. The cost is $3,359 per person, double occupancy, and brochures are available. We are sold out but additional space may be available. Contact Elliott Netherton , 454-0489.

October 5-13 – Enjoy an exciting Copper Canyon Adventure, a 9-day escorted tour by Collette Vacations, including two nights in luxury accommodations overlooking the beautiful San Carlos Marina plus an awe-inspiring train ride from sea level to almost 8,000 feet via numerious tunnels and over countless bridges in the unspoiled landscape. The cost is $1,999 per person, double occupancy, including transportation from Westport. A $220 deposit, including insurance, is required to hold your reservation and brochures are available. CAMERA CLUB

The venue for the next few Camera Club meetings will be the "Y" at 10:00 am. On February 13 we'll have a presentation on how to submit photos to WestportNow.Com. Mike Guthman will show us how to shoot "products". On February 27 Bill Balch will be back with an Elements tutorial.

BOOK CLUB

The next book club meeting will be on February 15th at 1:30 pm on the third floor of the library. The book for that meeting is "The voyage of the Narwhal" by Andrea Barrett.

HOOT OWLS

On February 14, the Hoot Owls will sing for the Weston Seniors, 12:40 pm at the Norfield Church in Weston. As always, we welcome inquiries from any Y's Man who is interested in joining our group. We're not all expert: we just like to get together and sing.
