Y's Men Newsletter – February 2, 2006THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2Theresa C. Lantz was appointed as the sixth Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Correction on March 11, 2003. She will speak on the topic : A New Day in Corrections: Three Years Later. Commissioner Lantz began her career in corrections as a front line correctional officer in the Washington, D.C. prison system in 1976. Ms. Lantz began her tenure with the Connecticut Department of Correction in July of 1989 as the Director of Training and Staff Development. Commissioner Lantz has earned an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Masters in Criminal Justice. She is an adjunct instructor at Tunxis Community College. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9A Y's Man, Neil O. Hardy, will speak about The Art of Medicine. Neil was an Associate Professor (ret.) from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, a Westport resident for 39 years and was a free-lance medical illustrator in the New York metropolitan area for 45 years. Neil's illustrations have appeared in over 80 textbooks and in such publications as Esquire, Runners World, The New York Times, Readers Digest, Redbook and Scientific American. TRIPS AND TRAVELFebruary 15— Join us for a trip to see Spamalot at the Shubert Theatre (225 W. 44 th St,). The cost is $123 which includes the theatre, bus and driver tip. Lunch is not included, but participants will be mailed a list of area restaurants. Arrangements can be made for group dining at a nearby restaurant for about $20 per person. April 23-25— On our three day trip to Gettysburg, Antietam and Harpers Ferry, we will have guided tours of National Military and Historic Parks. On the final day, we will make some interesting stops near York, PA before heading home. The cost is $425 per person, double occupancy, including insurance and seven meals. We will visit Copenhagen, Tallin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm, Visby, Sweden, Warnemunde (Berlin) and Arhus (Denmark). The cost is $3,909 per person for an outside cabin, includes air fare. Contact Ed VanGelder 227-6120. March 22— Join us on a day trip to Hartford to visit the Wadsworth Atheneum and the State Capitol. The Wadsworth is America's oldest public museum (1842). The main attraction of our morning tour will be the traveling Rodin exhibition with 62 sculptures, including his famous works The Kiss and The Thinker. Following the tour, we will have a delicious lunch at the Museum Cafe. After lunch, our bus will take us to the State Capitol where a tour has been scheduled. Atfer the tour we expect to have time to sit in one or both legislative galleries and visit with one of our Fairfield County legislators. The cost is $66 per person. Contact Dave Kidney at 227-7560. Senior Center Celebration! On Sunday, February 5th, between 1:00 & 4:00 p.m. the Senior Center will celebrate its 3rd anniversary with a super bowl theme. Festivities will include Staples & PAL cheer leaders, a salute to Wrecker players on the championship 2005, l966, 1956 seasons, super bowl high light films, Ted Simons sing along, and refreshments.
