ALAN ROSS

The following tribute to Alan was written by his very close friend Austin Doolittle. The photo was provided by John Luscombe.

Alan Ross, a Y's Man since 1991, died last Monday evening at 11:35PM. Alan and his band played many times for the holiday party, and Alan also gave four special talks for the Y's Men. He kept us entranced while he talked and played music on tape. His four talks were: The Big Bands, The Arrangers, The Vocalists, and Broadway. Alan also owned his own Beechcraft Bonanza and many Y's Men enjoyed flying with him. When sailing on Bill Reynolds's sailboat, Alan always kept us busy with stories and songs. A memorial service will be held for Alan on the 19th of February, from 1 to 4 PM at the Women's Club.

WEBSITE “MEMBERS ONLY”

The website has introduced a “Member's Only” directory that will be used to facilitate communication among ourselves and is not available to the general public. Initially the Members Only Area will include Member's bios, phone numbers, email addresses and a form for changing member information. In the future, additional content will be added. Members who have used this feature in a pilot mode have found it useful.

In order for this directory to be limited to members only we have sent you a secure user name and password via email that should not be shared with non members. If you haven't received a notice of subscription followed by a user name and password, please email wbalch@optonline.net or webmaster@ysmenwestportweston.org and you will be added to the list and sent the user name and password. If you don't wish to be included on the bulletin service, send us an email and we will delete your email address from the list. Once you get your user name and password, log on to the Members' Only directory under the Home button and let us know what you think.

Your Board has voted to purchase a hearing assistance audio system. Its purpose is to enable those with extreme hearing problems to clearly understand our Thursday speakers. To take advantage of this system you must purchase a handheld unit. This is a small radio receiver having an ear bud and volume control. The units cost $89. The system is scheduled to be in place in time for our February 17 meeting. If you wish to purchase a handheld unit or wish to learn more about this system, please contact Jan van Laer at 227-7491.
