Newsletter March 2, 2006THURSDAY, MARCH 2Eckart Preu, Music Director, Stamford (CT) Symphony will speak about The Symphony Orchestra of the 21st Century. We will meet in the church sanctuary after coffee and donuts. He will do a narrative accompanied by piano selections about the symphony orchestra of the 21st century. In searching for their first new maestro in 25 years, the SSO reviewed over 250 candidates. He was appointed to the position in June 2005. Eckart Preu will continue as Music Director of the Spokane Symphony during his tenure in Stamford. It is usual for the most successful conductors to hold more than one podium. His Carnegie Hall debut was in May 1999. He had a live radio/TV broadcast with the Radio Philharmonic of Slovenia in February 2000 and an engagement with the Jerusalem Symphony in April 2005. A native of Germany, Mr. Preu came to the United States as winner of the National Conducting Competition of the German Academic Exchange Service (1996) for graduate studies at the Hartt School of Music. Bill Meyer adds the following important announcement: Y's Men wives are cordially invited to share this treat with us. Since we have parking for only 205 cars it is suggested that Y's men's wives come with their husbands. There will be coffee and refreshments starting at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship room adjacent to the sanctuary. Our regular meeting will start at l0:00 a.m. in Hopkins Hall, and we'll proceed to the sanctuary at l0:25 a.m. If you have any questions please call Bob Fatherly 454-3653 or me 226-3704.
