Y's Men Newsletter April 13, 2006THURSDAY, APRIL 13Charles W. Shivery is the chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Northeast Utilities (NU) system. He will speak on the topic Connecticut Needs a Comprehensive Energy Policy . NU is actively participating in the development of energy strategies that could allow the state to have more control over decisions that affect consumer costs for electricity. NU has recommended six actions that should be part of a comprehensive Connecticut energy policy, including a $3 billion investment in distribution and transmission over the next five years which is already under way, more than doubling conservation programs, and a hybrid energy supply market model that could include some utility-owned generation. A native of Maryland's Eastern Shore, Shivery holds a BA and a Bachelor of Engineering Science from Johns Hopkins and an MBA from the University of Baltimore.
