NEWSLETTER: MAY 5, 2005Jennifer Herring, President & CEO, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk will talk about “The Maritime Aquarium-Building Connections”. She will focus on the diverse roles the Aquarium plays in the lives of its constituents and its communities. The Maritime Aquarium is a beloved institution, attracting 525,000 visitors a year, making it the second-largest family attraction in the State. Its informal science education program, the largest in the State, offers 150,000 students a year opportunities for exciting hands-on learning geared to the Connecticut science standards. It serves as the anchor for one of the most successful urban redevelopment programs in the region and generates $42 million in economic impact for the State of Connecticut. MAY 19 Westport First Selectwoman Diane Goss Farrell, and Weston First Selectman Woody Bliss will speak about the state of Westport and Weston. Diane Goss Farrell was elected as Westport 's First Selectwoman in November 1997, and reelected in November 2001. Prior to her election as First Selectwoman, Diane served on the Board of Finance from 1993-1997. She is married to Karr Winslow Farrell, Jr., and together they have two daughters Hilary, 21, and Margaret, 17. Woody Bliss was born in Minnesota and graduated from Cornell University as a mechanical engineer. He was elected to the Weston Board of Selectmen in 1999 and is currently serving as First Selectman. Woody and Prue moved to Weston 27 years ago. They have three grown children, David, Barbara and Susan. MAY 26 Our Annual Meeting, election of officers and picnic lunch will be
held on Thursday, May 26 at 10:00AM at Sherwood Island State Park .
A special highlight will be a performance by the popular Y's Men singing
group, the Hoot Owls. The cost is $10.00 per person and money will
be collected at the meetings. Members are encouraged to pay early in
order to determine the amount of food needed for the picnic lunch.

On May 19 the hosts will be Otis Crawford and others to be determined. MEETING FACILITIESSetting up the chairs May 12 will be Roger Eickhoff, Bob Kamm, Bill Sorenson and Pete Wolgast. May 19 the chairs will be set up by Stu Bernard, Russ Blair, Tom McCaffery and Burr McGhee. SPRING GOLF AT LONGSHOREJack Farrell has announced that on May 11, 2005 there will be a Y's Men's golf tournament at Longshore. The format will be the same as in past outings, prizes for low gross, low net, long drive and closest to the pin. A fee of $5 will go towards prizes. There will be a sign-up sheet at the meetings and members can also contact Jack at Pen6dragon@AOL.com . CENTRAL PARK FIELD WORKSHOPThe Camera Club is going to have a field workshop in Central Park on May 17, 2005. It will be led by David Kalman - one of the best professional photographers in Fairfield County. If you want to see some examples of David's work go to: http://www.photographybydkalman.com. Departure from Westport is at 7:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 17. David will meet with those going on the trip in the YMCA Board Room on Tuesday May 10 at 8:30 A.M. to discuss equipment requirements and the areas to be visited in the Park. HOOT OWLSThe Hoot Owls will sing on May 26 at the Y's Men's Picnic. SUMMER TENNISSummer tennis is Tuesday and Friday, 8:00-9:30 AM at Longshore tennis courts. Play starts Tuesday May 10. Schedules are available at the meeting or from Jan Van Laer 227-7491, Neil Croarkin 226-4665 and Otis Crawford 255-5261. There is a week missing on the schedule for August.
