THURSDAY, MAY 11

Joe Meyers, film critic for the Connecticut Post, will talk about "Oscar Fallout And What's New At The Movies." He will discuss the world of film, do a retrospective on the Academy Awards and comment on what's ahead in film for the summer. A collection of Joe's pieces about film stars of the past - "Whatever Happened to..." – went through several printings. Recently, Joe has hosted several "Critics' Choice" evenings at the non-profit Avon Theatre Film Center in Stamford, including a screening of "The Producers" which was followed by Joe's Q&A with the film's star Gene Wilder. A native of Chicago, he did most of his schooling in Philadelphia and studied journalism at Penn State.

THURSDAY, MAY 18

"Reconstruction in Iraq: A Day in the Life" is the title of the talk Bill Caffery will deliver. He serves as chief of staff and CIO for the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) a temporary government agency set up to monitor the $20 billion Iraq Relief and Reconstruction Fund. Prior to his present position he was with America Online as its first CIO and led AOL's efforts to integrate the company's IT systems with those of Netscape and Time Warner. A graduate of Harvard Business School with an MBA he also holds both a BS and MS in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from MIT.

Our Annual Meeting, election of officers and picnic lunch will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 10:00AM at Sherwood Island State Park. There will be a fly-fishing demonstration at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $ 12.00* per person and money will be collected at the meetings. Members paying on the day of the picnic will be charged $15.00*. Members are encouraged to pay early in order to determine the amount of food needed for the picnic lunch.

DONUT HOSTS

The donut hosts for May 11 will be George Erickson, Bob Halloran, Burr McGhee and Eric Olsen. On May 18 the hosts will be Dave Kidney, John Lomartire, Elliot Netherton and Warren Rossell.

TRIPS AND TRAVEL

June 9 Join the bus trip to see the world famous Cirque du Soleil's "Corteo”. This exciting and innovative circus performance will take place at 4 p.m. in a great tent on Randall's Island in the East River in New York City. It is a limited engagement. The trip includes lunch at Mario's on Arthur Avenue (“Little Italy in the Bronx”). The price, $144 per person, includes deluxe coach transportation, luncheon and the show. July 12/13 Tanglewood and The Berkshires - Enjoy an evening performance by the Boston Pops presenting “Bernstein on Broadway”. This overnight trip begins with a tour of Ioka Valley farm and a family style pancake luncheon. Then it's on to Williamstown to the Clark Art Institute to see works by Renoir and other impressionists. Dinner is at the Apple Tree Inn near the concert shed. We stay at the Williams Inn. The next day is a trip across the Mohawk Trail to Deerfield with a guided tour of early American homes and lunch in Amherst at the Lord Jeff Inn. Finally, there will be a stop at the Springfield MA Quadrangle with several fascinating museums. The four meals are included in the $305 price. Contact Warren Rossell 226-5357.

October 4 – Enjoy a day at the Belmont Racetrack.  The price is $63 per person and includes admission, buffet lunch in the Garden Terrace and transportation.  Contact Dave Kidney , 227-7560.

November 1 – Visit the Goodspeed Opera House and enjoy the musical the “Pirates of Penzance”.  The price is $101 per person includes show, motor coach and lunch at The Griswold Inn.  Contact Warren Rossell , 226-5357 .

December 6 – Enjoy the new Broadway musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” following a holiday lunch.  Details will be available later but save the date.

April 26-May 10, 2007 Exploring Greece and its Islands , a 15-day escorted tour by Collette Vacations, featuring Mykonos, Santorini and classical Greece.  The cost is $3,359 per person, double occupancy, including transportation from Westport.  A $250 deposit is required to hold your reservation.  Brochures are available and space is limited so you are encouraged to make your reservation early.  Contact Elliott Netherton , 454-0489.

The Hoot Owls will also sing May 10 at the Daughters of the British Empire at Shore and Country Club at 1:30 pm.

CAMERA CLUB EVENTS

May 31 there will be a field trip to Manhattan. June 13, Jim Kahnweiler at the Y at 10 A.M., Have your Third Annual Photo Contest entries ready when Y's Men meetings resume in September.

SPRING GOLF OUTING

The spring golf outing will be on Wednesday May 17 at Longshore Park starting at 9:00a.m. The entry fee is $5.
