Geoffrey Cole of Wilton, President and CEO of Norwalk Hospital, will talk about “Innovative Approaches to Quality Care: The Patient Comes First”. Mr. Cole joined Norwalk Hospital in August 2004, having previously been President and CEO at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. Mr. Cole holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan and a Master's of Public Health Degree from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was a Regents Fellow in 1979.

Thanksgiving No Meeting

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1

"Surviving The Perfect Storm" will be the subject of Squadron Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Graham Buschor. He is the 101st Squadron Commander at the 106th Rescue Wing, New York Air National Guard. He was one of the helicopter pilots that ditched in the Atlantic Ocean October 30th, 1991.  The episode is detailed in the book, The Perfect Storm, by Sebastian Junger and is also in the film. He spent 5 hours in the water, with 60 foot seas and 120 knot winds before being rescued by the Coast Guard Cutter, Tamaroa. He received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering in 1984 from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and a commission in the Naval Reserve as an Ensign.

DONUT HOSTS

The donut hosts for November 17 will be Mort Feldman, Carl Leaman, Neil Remlin and Dick Seclow. The hosts for December 1 will be Jack Coplen, Dave Kidney, Jorgen Jensen, and Peter Sternbach.

MEETING FACILITIES

Setting up the chairs on November 17 will be Bob Allen, Neil Croarkin, Carl Frey and Tom McCaffery. December 1 the chairs will be set up by Stan Adelman, Mike Belaga, Lenny Messman and Warren Rossell.

HOLIDAY PARTY

Our annual Holiday Party will be Thursday, December 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Continental Manor, Norwalk. The meal choice is prime rib, stuffed chicken or baked filet of sole. We will be entertained by the Hoot Owls and The Highland Rovers, an excellent Irish song group. Dancing will be to the music of the Easy Quartet. Tickets can be bought at our meetings. The price is $36.50 per person.

TRIPS AND TRAVEL

December 5 Begin your holiday season with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular following a Christmas tour of New York. Our guide from the Metropolitan Museum of Art will take us to the World Financial Center's Palm Court, Wall Street, and to see many of the department store windows. Lunch will be at La Maganette Restaurant. The price is $125 per person. Contact: Dave Kidney, 227-7560.

January 11  Y's Men's Hockey Night Out - we are planning a Hockey Night at the new Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yard.  The Wednesday game at 7:35 p.m. will be between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Hartford Wolf Pack.  We have reserved a "Party Suite" that will have 26 seats overlooking the rink.  It is our plan to have food available; however, we are still working this out.  We expect the price per person to be in the $52 to $55 range, and will announce the final price shortly.  Contact Dave Kidney 227-7560.

May 21 Our Baltic cruise begins May 21.  It is a ten night cruise, 13 day total. We will visit Copenhagen, Tallin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm, Visby, Sweden, Warnemunde ( Berlin ) and Arhus ( Denmark ). The cost is $3,909 per person for an outside cabin, includes air fare. Contact Ed VanGelder 227-6120.

HOOT OWLS

The Hoot Owls will sing Nov 15 at Edgehill Lifecare at 4 p.m. They will also sing December 6 at St. Luke's Horizon's Club at 1 pm.

YOUR DUES ARE DUE

This year the dues remain at $40. New members will pay $50. Payment can be sent to Michael Stashower, 14 Cardinal Lane, Westport, CT 06880 or be paid at one of the next meetings. Make your check payable to the Y's Men of Westport/Weston. Our fiscal year runs from July to June, and the dues are now due for the 2005-2006 year. If you are over 90, contact Mike so he can waive your dues. Thanks for your cooperation in getting dues in early so we don't have to do a lot of follow-up.
