The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices approved
the adult immunization schedule for 2007-2008. Recommendations include:
1. Varicella vaccine (Chickenpox) for all adults without immunity from prior
Chickenpox or immunization.
2. Zoster vaccine for all people 60 or older, regardless of prior episodes of
Herpes Zoster, also known as Shingles.
3. Tetanus, Diphtheria, and acellular Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccine (Tdap)
should replace single-dose Td for adults younger than 65 who have not already
received a dose.
4. Hepatitis B (also called Serum Sickness) vaccination for sexually active men
who are not involved in long-term monogamous relationships and for any adult
seeking protection from infection.
5. Pneumococcal vaccine for adults 50 and older.
6. Influenza vaccine every year.
Note: These are recommendations only, please check with your physician if they
are appropriate for you. Your physician may recommend additional immunizations
such as Hepatitis A vaccine if you travel to foreign countries where it is endemic.
