“Bringing a Historic Theatre into the 21st Century.”
Jodi Schoenbrun Carter, Managing Director of the Westport Country
Playhouse will speak to the Y's Men of Westport/Weston at their meeting
on Thursday, September 13th . The title of her presentation is “Bringing
a Historic Theatre into the 21st Century.” She will give insight
into how the Playhouse's past has been preserved and how contemporary
needs are addressed, with emphasis on utilizing new technology. She
will discuss the Playhouse's current operation and how it continues
to enrich a diverse community of artists, audiences and students since
it was transformed from a vintage summer theatre to a state-of-the-art,
year-round facility following a $17.8 million renovation and expansion
completed in 2005, its 75th anniversary year.
Prior to coming to Westport, Jodi has been general manager for several of off-Broadway's most-acclaimed shows including the original productions of Wit, Fully Committed, and Avenue Q, as well as recent revivals of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful, John Guare's Landscape of the Body, and August Wilson's Seven Guitars. She most recently worked with the award-winning Signature Theatre Company where she was both the general manager and transition and capital projects director. In addition to traditional general management duties, she was responsible for Signature's strategic business plan for a performing arts center located at the redeveloped World Trade Center site. She was the general manager of Vineyard Theatre and of Manhattan Class Company (MCC) Theater, and also served as the president of the Association of Non-Profit Theatre Companies in New York. She holds a BA in theatre and English from Texas Wesleyan University and an MFA in arts administration from Virginia Tech.
