Lutnick, Chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald LP will speak to the Y's Men of Westport/Weston. His subject is “A story of Loss and Renewal”. He was the CEO on September 11, 2001 when his firm was nearly wiped out by the terror attack that struck the World Trade Center in New York. The story of renewal is an inspiring one and provides insight into his leadership and the spirit of the firm, which refused to die. Howard lost his own brother and 658 other employees. The meeting begins at 10AM at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East. Howard W. Lutnick not only serves as the Chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald LP, but is also Chairman, President and CEO of eSpeed Inc. and Chairman and co-CEO of BGC Partners. Cantor Fitzgerald is one the largest traders of US Treasuries, and also deals in equities, derivatives and foreign stocks. It operates an electronic US Treasury future exchange and offers electronic trading of sovereign debt. Beginning in 1966 he started a revolutionary electronic bond-trading platform, which has led to today's eSpeed which is a highly regarded electronic marketplace and trading technology platform for the world's capital markets. It is one of the world's largest real-time multiple buyer and seller trading venues. In 2004 Mr. Lutnick oversaw the separation of the firm's global inter-dealer voice brokerage business to create a new partnership, BGC Partners. It was formed to serve the voice and electronic brokerage services to the wholesale fixed income interest rate, foreign exchange and derivatives markets worldwide. Mr. Lutnick guided the rebuilding of the business following the devastating September 11, 2001 World Trade Center terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 658 of the companies' 960 New York based employees. He mobilized efforts to help the families of the firm's lost colleagues and has provided over $180 million to them. Mr. Lutnick graduated from Haverford College in 1983 with a degree in economics and joined Cantor Fitzgerald the same year. He was named President and CEO in 1991 and Chairman in 1996. As a recognized expert on financial markets and the financial services technology industry, he is frequently sought as a speaker and commentator and has addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland and testified before committees of both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.
