Dan Bock, former President of Carquest, will speak to the Y's Men of Westport/Weston. His subject is “THE AUTOMOTIVE AFTER-MARKET -- A $237 BILLION SECRET”. The meeting begins at 10AM at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East Dan's talk will trace the evolution of the US automotive after-market from a “Mom and Pop” business to an industry that last year exceeded $257 billion in the US . He will present a “Harvard Case Study” approach using Carquest as a proxy for the opportunities and issues facing the domestic auto industry. These issues include, the future of the “ Detroit ” based auto industry, competition from the third world, and who is going to repair your car? Dan Bock is one of the original founders of Carquest Corporation, a leading automotive parts distributor and served as its President from 1983 to 1996. Carquest is privately held and last year had sales of over 3 billion dollars. At the present time, Dan is a consultant to a variety of automotive after-market manufacturers. Consulting assignments are of a general business nature, with an emphasis on sales and marketing. He recently stepped down from the Board of Directors of Carquest Corporation. He completed a two-year term as Chairman of the national automotive after-market industry trade association. Dan graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University . He has four sons and resides in New Rochelle , New York .
