Hello Y’s Men Camera Club,
We have so many active projects I thought I’d better provide an update and schedule. This includes some that haven’t been announced before. It includes the time period from now through April 27.
We will meet on February 23rd at 10:00 A.M. in the Y Board Room. The subject will be Black & White photography. This is the first meeting room part of our black and white project.
The meeting will start with a panel discussion – with audience participation. The objective is to learn how to make superior black and white photos. Mike Guthman will emphasize how to “see” in b&w, what makes for good b&w subjects, what camera settings are suggested, and how to achieve maximum impact. Dave Kalman will explain making b&w shots with a special infra red camera. What to look for, etc. Burt Stuttman will show and discuss famous b&w photos that have made an impact on society. Bill Balch will moderate the discussion. Questions will be answered as we go along and after the panel discussion. Bring your questions to this informative meeting.
Bill Balch will discuss alternate techniques for converting color images to b&w using Elements.
Send your electronic b&w images to Bill (wbalch@optonline.net) no later than April 6. Remember to crop your image to an 11”x14” aspect ratio before sending it.
The subject for March will be Studio/Portrait Photography. We‘ve covered flash, we do “environmental” portrait work all of the time. Now, were going to get introduced to studio work. On March 9, at 10:00 A.M., in the Y Board Room, we’ll hear a lecture on the subject by Weston-based professional portrait photographer Alison Wachstein. This meeting is open to all Camera Club members and their guests.
Alison will host us at her studio on March 16, where we will do hands-on studio portrait photography. The meeting will start at 10:00 A.M. at her home studio at 5 Jana Drive, Weston. Please let Bernie Perry if you are going to participate (203-227-5856).
On April 13 we’ll be back at the Board Room at 10:00 A.M. to view and discuss our black and white photos. We will view all of the images (sent to Bill by April 6). It will be interesting to see the different techniques used to convert from color to b&w, and which ones look better in b&w. The best of the lot will be displayed at the Senior Center.
We are planning a field trip to the Central Park Zoo for our April 27 meeting. It should be warm enough by then to do an outdoors shoot. Details later.
Please work these dates into your schedules.
Keep warm.
Stan
