Surplus Food Distribution Routine

Effective Jan 20, 2012

We back up to the main entrance at Stew Leonard’s Norwalk Store at 6:15 am each Tuesday. One car per person will be necessary to handle the volume. Please drive the largest vehicle you own. Each regular is responsible for arranging for his substitute.

See Debra Parent in the bakery area of the store if the goods are not at the front door.

Deliver the goods to the following:

  1. Gillespie Center: 45 Jesup Road. Behind Restoration Hardware. Walk down the asphalt walkway to the main entrance. Serves 30 diners 3 meals daily.
  2. Project Return: 124 North Compo Rd. House in the midst of ball fields on N. Compo. Serves 8-10 teenage girls.
  3. Canal Park:       Elderly and Handicapped housing on Canal near intersection with Kings Highway, N. Leave food in the community room. They will use all that you leave.   I have spoken with the staff at Canal Park and we will continue to deliver food to them.
  4. Senior Activities Center: Imperial Ave. Sue Pfister redistributes some of the goods, so leave as much as possible.

Thanks again for your help.

Y’s Men volunteer for numerous programs in which we can contribute our time, energy and labor. Opportunities to volunteer for community needs arise often, but many on an irregular basis. Volunteers are called for at the regular Y’s Men meetings and asked to sign up.

We do not participate in soliciting for fundraisers nor do we take part in partisan activities. While we are involved in the area, our special focus is on activities
and nonprofits in Westport and Weston.

Examples of activities we are currently participating in:

• Stew Leonard Surplus Food Distribution; Every Tuesday, 6:15 am - pick up surplus food and distribute.

Library Book Sale: set-up and staff twice annually

Clean-up day, Westport: annual town-wide cleanup, spring

• RSVP Volunteer Drivers: transport patients to doctor’s appointments including outpatient visits at hospital

Meals-on-Wheels to the needy

Y’s Men are invited to suggest volunteer opportunities for the Y’s Men. If you have
an opportunity to suggest please email Pete Powell at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call him at 203/247-9928
