The March meeting of the Classical Music Society will be next Tuesday, March 4 beginning at 2:45 pm.
Because of our special program that day, we will be meeting in the Sanctuary of the Saugatuck Congregational Church, not at the usual Westport Center for Senior Activities.
Performing for us will be one of Staples High School’s elite musical ensembles, the Stradivarius Chamber Orchestra. It is an advanced by-audition ensemble open to all Staples string players currently enrolled in the school’s orchestra programs. Candidates must audition each spring for the following school year’s ensemble, whether they were part of the previous year’s ensemble or not.
According to their directors, Carrie Mascaro and Jeri Brima, the group is known for its musicianship. “Working with this group of talented young musicians is a labor of love,” they said. “Their dedication to their own growth as players and their commitment to ensemble playing is gratifying, to say the least.”
This year’s Stradivarius Chamber Orchestra of 29 elite high school musicians will perform throughout the year with the other music department groups at school concerts. This special performance for the Y’s Men Classical Music Society (in the Sanctuary of the Saugatuck Congregational Church) will include works by Telemann, Haydn, Mozart, Copeland and others.
No reservations are required, and there is no admission fee. So come ahead, and attend this special program on Tuesday.
Many thanks,
Ed
