The conditions for the second Y’s Men Skate session were nothing short of inspiring, offering a momentary escape from the darkest days of winter’s gloom. Despite being mid-December, the morning air was a decidedly balmy 40 degrees, creating a pocket of temperate skating weather. Under a high, partly cloudy sky, the subtle breeze served only to sharpen the crispness of the air without hindrance to the skaters.
As the hazy sunlight broke through the clouds, it illuminated the surface of the Longshore Rink, transforming the ice into a field of dazzling brilliance—a mosaic of shimmering, crystalline facets. The sheer beauty of the rink, set against the tranquil, expansive backdrop of Long Island Sound, provided a stunning sense of bucolic communing with nature while pursuing invigorating exercise.
With a refined sense of grace and panache, the Y’s Men cohort launched onto this field of light. This is exercise merged with contemplation; the rhythmic scrape of blades creates a soothing, meditative counterpoint to the crisp winter silence. Each skater embraced the smooth, low-impact exercise, confirming that this session was truly both exhilarating and revelatory.
We were delighted to note a solid increase in attendance from the inaugural skate, a clear sign that word is spreading about this uniquely invigorating morning routine. However, we still have ample space for all members, especially those who have previously expressed interest, to join our growing circle.
Don’t miss out on this perfect blend of camaraderie, sophisticated exercise, and a moment of winter bliss. The next session at the Longshore Rink is scheduled for:
Wednesday, December 17th, at 10:00 AM.
Please join us; we guarantee you will be happy you carved out the time.
